From new timber floors to old timber floors, to parquetry floors, the principles of sanding and coating are the same. What is different is the species being sanded and the suitability of the suggested coating.
We also carry out minor repairs as well as installation.
Sanding and coating a floor requires experience and knowledge of the timber being sanded, whether it be hardwoods (such as spotted gum, Tasmanian oak, blackbutt, Sydney blue gum, jarrah, Ironbark) or softwoods such as cypress pine. Richard will assess your floor, establish the type of timber, and recommend a coating appropriate for the timber species, your design and decorating requirements.
Floor sanding also requires experience with floor sanding equipment. Our team of experienced sanders use the latest in sanding equipment with dust extraction.
One of the more enjoyable aspects of our job is exploring the creativity potential of the vast range of effects available.
Currently, invisible products are popular – this is white tinted water borne polyurethane which retains the sanded look of the timber instead of the wet look of traditional sealers. It can also have additional white tint added for a limewash look.
We have extensive experience using stains, specifically the Feast Watson brand which includes Black Japan, Walnut, Teak, Jarrah and Mahogany, just to name a few.
White washes and lime washes are currently popular, and as with stains, there are multiple alternatives, from painted finishes, distressed looks, to tinted polyurethanes.
